About the Event

You and your guests will be transported to a world where Asian merchants, artists and food purveyors dot the busy streets. Lively shouts and the tranquil notes of the bamboo pipe drift through the air, mingling with the scent of Far Eastern spices. These authentic sights and sounds will come to life in the Grand Lobby of the Wang Center on the night of March 8, 2007. The evening promises a spellbinding program of exciting entertainment and exotic cuisine as we usher in the Lunar New Year.

Year of the Boar 4705

Celebrate the year 4705, the bountiful and blessed Year of the boar! Fortunate are those who are born in the Year of the Boar (1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007), for boars possess the best qualities that would make others envious. Luxurious in nature, boars are also intelligent creatures who are sophisticated, as a result. But because they are so fortunate, it is hard for a boar to understand the needs of others. Also a great companion, a boar will bathe you in their riches. Rabbits and goats luxuriate in their company!

THE Need

Dream vs. Reality

People who come to our country today have the same dreams of opportunity borne by our forefathers. Currently, immigrants represent 1 in 7 Bay State residents and constitute 17% of the workforce.

Yet, many immigrants encounter destitution when they arrive at our land of plenty. They often put themselves and their families at risk by working under hazardous conditions, leaving their children at home alone to work multiple jobs, and living in substandard and over-crowded housing.

Immigrants account for 36% of Massachusetts families living below the federal poverty line. 40% percent of immigrant children live in poverty.
